What Are The Benefits Of Coworking Spaces?

Since that little global tizzy in 2020, working from home has become a lot more common. And this is great, staff now have more freedom and flexibility than before, and employee happiness is up across the board because of it. But sometimes working from home has its drawbacks: you are easily distracted by a good opportunity to do the laundry, watching the TV on your lunch breaks starts to run over past said break, you’re in a war with the cat to stop it sitting on your keyboard, you’re powering through your home supply of coffee and have to keep buying more.

The solution to these issues? A coworking space.

Coworking spaces are now on the rise as people look for a middle ground between working from home and returning to the office. The company office is too stuffy, your desk neighbour is annoying, the coffee is god-awful stuff, the commute is too long so you find yourself wasting more time in the day getting to and from work.

The part you miss is the structure. You need a proper desk and ergonomic chair, an excuse to get dressed properly – not just a nice shirt for a zoom meeting, and exceptional coffee that doesn’t run out every 5 minutes.

So What Are The Other Benefits Of Coworking Spaces?

1.    Networking and Community

An obvious advantage to being back in a space with other people is the ability to connect with people you otherwise wouldn’t meet. At a coworking space, the added benefit is that each time you make use of the space, you’ll see new people. No more being bogged down by that one annoying desk neighbour, now you’ve got lots of opportunities to find other freelancers/remote workers who match your vibe.

If you run your own business, you might even find yourself making connections that are beneficial to both parties involved businesses.

2.    Reducing Loneliness

Some people might thrive being left on their own to their own devices for long periods of time and this is okay! However, after a few weeks or months of working from home alone, this disconnection from the outside world can really start to set in. Loneliness and isolation can have a really bad impact on your mental health, even the smallest of interactions can help to counteract these feelings.

3.    Access to Shared and Private Spaces

Coworking spaces are more thoroughly designed than your standard offices, a lot more thought has gone into the layout and amenities available. Gone are isolating cubicles, you’ve now got airy open-plan spaces and private meeting rooms to meet any and all of your working needs. There are spaces for collaboration and spaces to crack down and get busy being productive.

4.    Flexibility

So working from home is still great, but maybe you want 2 or 3 days a week where you’re not working in the house to help boost productivity. That’s the great thing about coworking spaces, use them whenever you please! You might use one Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and decide to work from home Thursday and Friday one week, then the next week you might use it every other day. You’re not tied down to set hours or days when working out of a coworking space.

Maybe one day you have a team meeting at the coworking space and hire a small meeting room, the next it might just be you, so you only need to hire the one desk. This flexibility is also much kinder on your wallet.

5.    Enhanced Productivity

Being surrounded by other people being productive can actually help you to be productive. You see how productive other people around you are being and this gives you a reference point for tracking your own performance.

It’s all about being in a productive setting to get you and your brain into work mode. A good coworking space will also set the productive mood with background music, natural light, and a good air temperature to keep you feeling energised and refreshed.

6.    Brings Structure to your Day

Working from home constantly makes the lines between work life and home life blur together. Where does the workday start and end?

Coworking spaces give that structure back, once in the building its work time, once out the building it home life and free time. Don’t let the two bleed into one another.

7.    Access to Shared Amenities

Good coworking spaces will provide you with all the amenities you need for a productive workday. Enjoy high speed Wi-Fi, ergonomic furniture, free tea and coffee, printing services, recording or video conferencing equipment, and a range of other useful amenities.
